A statement frequently uttered in Norway is:
"The fish in the sea is what we'll live on after the oil runs out."
It's always uttered with confidence, as if the fish will always be there as a backup. Even if it's still there, it won't give us anywhere near the wealth that the oil did. In fact, we reached peak oil in 2001. Finding high-profit alternative industries is getting kind of urgent, and this has been acknowledged, but no one seems to be in a hurry.
@dvn It used to, thirty years ago. Some people, especially in the districts, cling onto it because fishing is the only thing that's keeping some of the smaller settlements alive.
