Why is it that all the most common conditions have no cures? Got a cold or a headache? Too bad. We can only offer partial symptom relief. Got a slipped disc? Too bad. You just have to wait it out unless you're willing to risk back surgery that might make it worse, and can convince your doctor to refer you for it. Skin conditions? Here's this cream that you have to apply forever, because, again, we can only offer partial symptom relief. Diabetes? Tough luck. Take these shots until you die.

I agree - these things all suck very much. Type 2 diabetes is reversible, though, so at least there's that.
@skiring It's not reversible by taking a pill (obesity is another thing medicine can't fix). There's gastric bypass, but it's pretty extreme to perform surgery to shrink the stomach just to lose weight.

@skiring The problem with that is that I'm not good at avoiding carbohydrates. The first thing they told me was to cut down on the carbs. I've been trying to do that for years, but I'm not very good at it. I wish carbs weren't everywhere, because then they'd be much easier to avoid, and I could just accept that they don't exist, and no one else would get to enjoy them either.
@skiring I'm wired to eat the food that is available. When there are low/no sugar/carb versions of things like sodas, sweets and desserts, I pick them, but they're so often not available at all. In many cases, I know for a fact that they could produce low-carb versions of a product, but they just don't, but I still want it.
@skiring To put it in another way: If I had a knack for watching my diet and my exercise, I wouldn't be here in the first place. It's exactly *because* I suck royal ass at having healthy habits that I'm here. At least half the problem is that I'm generally not good at taking care of myself. It's boring and depressing, and I have more enjoyable things to do. A diet is just a tiny part of it. That's what doctors and dieticians can't fix.
@thor I get that. I wish I had a perfect solution for you.

Pharmaceutical companies make a lot more money if you have to buy something for the rest of your life.
Headaches I'd say vary enough in causation it's impossible to treat the root cause unless it's because of dehydration.
For every one condition that can be cured permanently, there must be a hundred where there is either no cure ("Sorry, that bit of you is just going to remain broken from now on.") or there is symptom relief, but it's shitty ("We had to take your guts out. You've got to wear this bag on your stomach until you die now.")
