When I read all the awful #metoo stories of sexual harassment, I'm shocked and furious. I didn't know there are so many disgusting pigs out there. I understand perfectly well why most of these women were helpless to stop it. If a person who had power over me did something like that to me, I wouldn't know what to do either. But this is also our problem. We often perceive bold people as natural leaders and grant them power, but boldness is just a nice word for unscrupulousness.
You can't really make decisions with confidence if you're constantly worried about who you're going to hurt or who's going to hurt you. That's how the rest of us are put together, and that's why we aren't in management. I don't think power corrupts. I think power is more attractive, more attainable and easier to sustain for morally corrupt people than to people who have a conscience.
