Okay, I'm actually at the point where I *need* control of the visibility of my old toots on Mastodon *immediately*. I need a button to make my entire toot history private as of right now, and as far as I can tell, there is *nothing* that lets me do that. This is a problem.

@thor All I can offer is a tool to delete all the older toots. I’m not even sure you can change the visibility of old toots given that you cannot edit them.

@thor make a feature request in github or post a bounty for the feature.

@kensanata @theauditor Having admin access to the instance, I have at least managed to hide my public web timeline by 404'ing everything but direct links to individual toots. People who aren't admins don't have this power, though, so what are they supposed to do?

@theauditor @kensanata My main problem here is that anyone in my real-life contact network could potentially find my profile and learn a hell of a lot about me. As it turns out, someone in my real-life contact network *has* done exactly that, and it's a very uncomfortable experience. The web feed is now hidden, but that's easy to bypass by signing up for an account, so I still want to "lock down" my account.

@thor @kensanata why not join IRC channel: #mastodon on irc.freenode.net and ask if one of the developers can write that tool for you. They won't mind doing it if you can give them a bounty and also adding it to the main code in future.

@thor not even via API? honest question I have no idea. if that is the case more dev work seems to be needed...what would be the case with public toots that have been propagated to a no-longer-federated instance? we are using centralized speak in federated space, there might be some translation issues when porting our mental structures
