Is there any environment in this world where you can simply turn up, prove your skills and get relevant gigs coming in without all the pointless networking, socialising and endless meetings? Where do I sign up if I just want to create things and be in charge of my own schedule? As far as I can tell, every single gig on the planet has some kind of needless obstacle blocking it, because the people who need my services aren't able to assess my reliability and skills.
@thor Yeah, that's pretty much right. I found hackathons are a great way to meet people of varying areas of focus, and show them what you can do. That's more or less how I got a job doing stuff in my wheelhouse.
