What Trump is doing doesn't look like madness if you're a voter who explicitly *wants* to tear down the post-war geopolitical system.
Personally, I feel neural about that system. It seems to work fine. I haven't lived under any other system. Is it the best? *shrug*
Trump has suddenly reminded a large number of people that they have something to defend. Nobody ever bothered to defend the system, because it was the status quo and people thought the benefits were self-evident. Nooope...
