It's always weird to read in the news about an event you personally experienced. It's always not quite how it actually happened.
Same thing when you hear other people recount something you told them. The story is usually wrong in all the important places, especially when it comes to what was said. It's rare that people get it right, and even rarer to quote things verbatim, even when that's crucial to understanding the story.
