I can be quite indecisive. I'm often paralysed for fear of making the wrong choice. I can spend ages in a grocery store isle trying to make the optimal choice. I can spend months trying to pick a vacation spot before failing because none of them seemed good enough. I often put off decisions until it's too late because I can't make up my mind. How do people make decisions quickly? My brain is overwhelmed wirh pros and cons. Sometimes I just pick randomly because I can't make an informed decision.

@thor Yeah, I also get this all the time. I don’t know if it’s some sort of reaching for perfectionism that leads to indecisiveness.

@thor Really just picking randomly is the ticket. Filter out the truly bad choices and the ones remaining are probably equally decent. Just take one. If it turns out to be a bad choice for some reason, you'll know to filter on that aspect next time.

You'll have 60-80 years to do again whatever it is you're doing, this particular time isn't all that important. You know, unless it is.
@thor I have a friend Mark who has been calling me a couple of times per month for advice on buying a computer since 2012. He has still not bought one yet. He can't decide either.

@thor What I do is find whatever reason I can to help reduce the options, choose randomly from the remainder, and not regret it.

@thor

you accept that the optimal decision is not always possible

You pick randomly and enjoy whatever it is that you have chosen

Maybe next time you'll choose differenlty, maybe not. Who knows !

>"How do people make decisions quickly?"

For me it is a trait that is partially inherited and partially trained. I am in middle-management and I make 1000 decisions or more a day. Some of them are good some are really bad. I guess every decision has some good and some bad to it. Just pick one and run with it. I used to vacillate and not make a decision but I decided that I needed to live and not just think about living.

I don't know if what I am saying helps or not. I weigh the pros and cons and choose but my life is also not dependent upon most of the decisions that I make. I do believe that a person can have a great vacation in the most God-forsaken place in the world if they determine to have fun with it, for example.
