It's so tempting to change "Mastodon" to "Mastodont" everywhere in the Norwegian translation, since "mastodont" is the proper Norwegian word for the animal. Unfortunately, the network is called Mastodon and, speaking a language with a Latin alphabet, I don't feel at liberty to transcribe a proper noun like they have done in Japanese, and probably Chinese and Russian too,

Like English, Norwegian has its own names for countries and cities. Movie and book titles are usually translated as well. But with an international social network, I guess localization has its limits. Certain central concepts must keep the same name across languages in order to avoid confusion. Facebook is called Facebook, not Fjesboka, in Norwegian, though Fjesboka is used for humorous purposes in the vernacular.
