It's kind of hard to maintain interest in the Bible, even as a fictional text, when the world-building is so shoddy. Most modern fiction maintains a much higher self-consistency than the Bible.
@skypage Oh, you don't even need to switch authors or languages. I mean, just read a few passages from a section of a book, especially the Old Testament, and you'll run into inconsistencies.

It's hard to say if that's due to shortcomings in translation. I can't read the source material, so I have no way to truly know

There's a large number of authors, in several languages as well. Just getting different translations will give you a vastly different take on different passages. I wouldn't be surprised if parts of the New Testament which were written in Greek are difficult to translate due to the subtlety of verbs in that language.
