We need startups to disrupt the accounting profession. It's way too hard to do your own accounts. Also, let's revolt against the tax authorities while we're at it, because filing taxes is way too hard too.

The madness that is accounting and taxes only exists because government bureaucrats and business bureaucrats (accountants) have been in an insane arms race ever since taxes were invented.

It's sunny outside. I should be out there. Fuck knows what I'm meant to be doing outside, though. Kick stones around? If the outside was an intellectually stimulating environment, I'd be there all the time.

Hey, fediverse! Listen up. You'll like this, I promise.

Yesterday I was on Norwegian national radio, talking about how the "monopoly" of Facebook over the public discourse is dangerous and that politicians need to step in.

My sollution? Enforce federation!

That way the free market of social networks can work and the network effect will no longer be a "social DRM" locking people in.

If these senators want to prevent another Cambridge Analytica, they need to ask Facebook to close off developers' access to social graphs and user content. Most apps don't need that data. Of course, if Facebook does that, developers are going to leave the platform in droves, since many of them are only there to collect data, or to use aggressive viral marketing tactics to push freemium games on people. The illegitimate uses of Facebook apps vastly outnumber the legitimate ones.

Not to discount the value of an open, decentralized network -- that's really really important -- but I think one underappreciated positive feature of Mastodon is its open API, which allows anyone to write Mastodon apps.

I began losing interest FAST when Birdsite stopped allowing third-party clients to access all its features (eg polls). That won't be a problem with Mastodon.

Got off my ass and voted today. My daughter came with me and I told her she could decide what color we should vote for. Pink it is!

Still waiting for Quake Champions to come back up.

Very excited to try Hellblade. Looks like a game I'll truly enjoy.

Back from vacation. Ass firmly planted in front of the PC. Feels like home.

In a fucking terrible mood today, and I hate myself for it. Upset over stupid bullshit that I have no control over. I wonder when I'll learn to just let certain things go. I should be older and wiser at this point.

Made myself an entire frozen pizza. Ate a quarter of it. I swear, I can never tell how hungry I really am.

I mean, how hard have you failed with a video editing program when it can't even import the most popular video file format of the modern age?

I find it so funny that every time a free video editor (NLE) comes along, I get all excited that I can finally stop using pirated software, and when I download and install this new software it immediately fails at some extremely basic task and thus becomes unusable.

Like recently I tried Avid's new Media Composer. It looked like it had all the functionality I needed to do my projects, but when I tried to import my .mp4 recordings I was told they were an unknown format. So much for that then...

People are surprisingly receptive to notions of the supernatural. Centuries of science education has failed to eradicate it. Some superstitions have actually gotten worse. There are some people who just can't be happy unless there are gods, spirits, ghosts, healers, telekinesis, magic herbs, yetis, UFOs and aliens out there for them to believe in. Men tend to go for the aliens, yetis, and telekinesis. Women go for the healers, herbs and spirits. So glad I'm not afflicted with any of it.

"Learn how to code" is the new "if you just get a degree you will have a good job"

If everyone takes that advice like everyone took the college advice you will have a shitload of coders and not enough jobs

That will force the wages of coders down to the point you will be begging for microsoft to take your code for free just to have your name out there.

Its what happened to writing and its part of why its hard to get a paid gig, too many writers willing to work for free.

So "learn how to code" is bad advice, Jobs are going away and they are never coming back we need to address this.

We need a universal dividend on all of the automated labor on earth paid out to all of its citizens
